A Mixed Media Tutorial

Hello, I hope you are staying safe! If you are still stuck at home there is a great challenge on Instagram I like to do every year; Index Card a Day or ICAD for short. ICAD 2020 starts June 1st. There are prompts that come out around the end of May, but you do not have to follow those. The only rule is to use an index card as your substrate. Also, use the hashtags #dyicad2020 and #daisyyellowart. You can find out more about this fabulous challenge here.

To warm-up for the challenge, I have pulled out my index cards and started to play. Yesterday I created this fabulous mixed media piece on an index card!

Of course, I made a video tutorial for you so you can see how to have fun with index cards and all your art supplies. The supplies I used are listed below:

  • index card
  • collage papers: I used old book paper and an old teabag paper
  • joint tape or any other collage element
  • matte medium
  • craft paints – I used: Folk Art Acrylic, Patina and Apple Barrel Acrylic, Cloudless
  • gesso or white paint
  • walnut ink
  • cheesecloth
  • raffia
  • gel medium
  • bird embellishment, word or quote
  • black ink pad and sponge
  • foam dot

I do hope you enjoyed my tutorial. I will be making more videos as I work my way through the challenge and cannot wait to share them with you. Be sure to subscribe to my blog and my newsletter so you don’t miss any. I am also posting tutorials on YouTube and IGTV and Instagram each day, so head on over and click that “follow” button!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
