This year I signed up for Wanderlust which is a year-long course in mixed media and art journaling. It’s great to work along with other artists. I love to learn new techniques and it keeps me inspired. The theme was Rivers and Lily Mille did a beautiful piece which inspired me to create these river stones.

I started off with gelatin prints in earthy colors, from which I cut out the stones. While those were drying I painted my background and used a rubber stamp to add some interesting marks and then went around the edges with Golden Sepia Fluid Acrylic. I arranged my river stones and glued them in place. I outlined them with a Stabilo All pencil and activated with a wet paintbrush. When that dried I applied embossing inks on both the stones and the background and sprinkled on Seth Apter’s Baked Texture Embossing Powder and melted with a heat gun. To finish off I splattered with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Ink and mounted on a piece of matte board.
Here are some close ups of that beautiful texture.

I am using this media for the The Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge this month. The Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge Blog offers a monthly challenge for mixed media artists. The theme is anything goes, but you must always use more than one media. Their rules can be found here. It’s a great way to show your work and meet other artists. Have a look at the blog. They do have prizes!
Be sure to check out The Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge this month. You can add up to three pieces in each monthly challenge for a chance to win a prize.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you feel inspired!
Happy Crafting,
Suzette
