Hi! Christmas is almost here and I have a few more crafts to share with you. Today I will be showing you how to make a golden bird Christmas ornament for your Christmas tree.
It is fairly simple to make. The supplies needed for your Christmas ornament are as follows:
- Aluminium foil
- Tape – either aluminum tape, masking tape or floral tape
- PVA glue
- Creative Paperclay® or any other air dry clay you like.
- Craft wire- approx. 1/2″
- Gold Gilding Paint. I used the Pebeo brand as that is what is available here.
- A black pen or Sharpie
- A fine grit sand paper to smooth the bird when dry
- A toothpick
- Water
- Paintbrush
- Ribbon to hang your bird
Step 1
Form the shape of a small bird with aluminum foil.
Use the toothpick for the beak. This is your armature.
Step 2
Coat your armature with glue. This ensures that the clay sticks firmly.
Step 3
Add your clay pressing down firmly to ensure to air is trapped under the clay. Smooth with a little water.
Step 4
Bend a tiny piece of wire into a horse shoe shape and curl up the edges. Press into the top of back of the bird. This is where you will thread your ribbon to hang you ornament.
Step 5
Set aside to dry.
Step 6
When fully dry, sand if needed.
Step 7
Paint with gilding paint. Be sure to work in a well ventilated area and wear gloves.
Step 8
Set aside to dry.
Step 9
When fully dry use a pen or Sharpie to add the eyes
Step 10
Add your ribbon.
Your Christmas ornament is now ready to hang!
